Superyacht polishing
- How do you polish a superyacht?
- Can you polish AWLGRIP on a superyacht?
- What products can be used for superyacht polishing?
- Ceramic coatings & polymer sealers on superyachts, what is best?
So many questions to answer when it comes to polishing superyachts. Superyacht polishing is not a mystery but the true question is why polish your superyacht?
Is the AWLGRIP paint dull and damaged? needing a tidy up a year or two before repainting? Has there been rust contamination or paint damage to the superyachts paint?
MVSP follows a step by step analytical process to determine what type of superyacht polishing process will suit your desired outcome. This is usually performed by visual inspection followed by a test patch or multiple test patches. The final outcome for polishing your superyacht must be considered before a polishing process is established and confirmed.
Example 1: If a superyacht has minor rust file damage/ foreign contamination but it is within the paint manufacturer's paint warranty, all care must be taken to keep the documents and repair process recorded for the superyachts painted surface to remain within its warranty period. This is when a repair process is run beside or admin team so each step is reported and documented in a professional manner to the yacht management or insurance assessor.
Example 2: The superyacht has dull AWLGRIP paint from previous polishing procedures but its too expensive and too soon to repaint the superyacht. This is a common theme for superyachts within the 4-8 year mark of the original paint. Damage is usually caused when previous crew or suppliers do not fully understand the importance of the paint surface tension and decreasing surface area levels to limit oxidation. The paint can be resurfaced and sealed to various levels that will suit the desired outcome of the superyachts request.
Our team: Mike Vitali has managed multiple high level superyacht paint restorations over the many years of superyacht painting and superyacht polishing projects - ‘MV Special Projects’. Polishing was in his blood with Mike being the proud son of the late ‘Devan Michael Vitali’ one of New Zealand’s most well known stainless steel polishers.
MIKE SAYS: "I really love the superyacht polishing restoration process. I think the challenge of understanding the painted surface history, past paint treatment, cleaning brushes used, products previously used on the surface and original paint application is what interests me so much. It feels like investigating a mystery to find the ultimate polishing restoration solution. Like a superyacht paint detective’. It's awesome and I am not afraid to admit that!"
